Exploring the Craft of Hand Printing
In an effort to bring hands on creativity back to the public, Hurley has constructed a special installation at their Orange County headquarters entitled the Hurley Printing Press! The Printing Press is an outlet for people to get their hands dirty and create some original tee-shirt designs with distinct and classic surf style.
The Printing Press was curated by legendary surf and skate industry artist and sculptor CR Stecyk III. Stecyk has the distinction of shaping and painting a surfboard in the permanent archives of The Smithsonian! He says of the Printing Press “The possibilities for aesthetic advancement, fun and mayhem are unlimited!”
We are stoked to carry three new styles of Men’s Tee Shirts printed directly from the Hurley Printing Press. The Hurley Hula Death Tee, the Hurley Surf N’ Enjoy Tee, and the Hurley Don’t Snake Me Tee are all unique designs bred out of creativity from artists that were invited to the press.
Another celebrated surf industry artist that broke out to the mainstream is Madsteez. His amazing portraits blend with street art and his own style to offer a different view of the subjects he paints. “I loved stripping down the process of print making and sharing it with the public,” says the California based artist.
James Marshall, a.k.a. Dalek, is a renowned international artist invited to the Hurley Printing Press. The longtime Hurley artist is known for his bold and bright geometric designs, and is responsible for the patterns on Hurley’s 5X SIMA award-winning Phantom Boardshorts.
Rime is a New York City Street Artist (now residing in Los Angeles) that is another talented name added to the roster of artists invited to the Printing Press. Rime has collaborated on a variety of branding campaigns, advertisements, apparel designs, and films.
