Sundance Beach's 5th Annual Surf Video Contest Results

Surf Community Gathers to Support Amateur and Local Filmmakers

On Saturday March 10th, Sundance Beach was proud to present our 5th annual Surf Video Contest. Since it’s humble beginnings, when it was screened at our retail store in Goleta, the event has steadily grown in popularity and has filled the Lobero Theater for the last two years. This year’s videos featured the best quality of surfing we have seen yet and the capacity crowd of nearly 500 were stoked to see some sick surfing action on the big screen. Before the show started, the surf industry’s best brands were on hand to give away tons of free gear to everyone who attended. A red carpet and photo staging area near the entrance allowed fans to get a photo and mingle before the event kicked off at 6:00pm.

As the doors opened and the event got underway, mc’s Preston Berk and Chris Garcia got the crowd fired up by throwing out all kinds of free stuff after breaking down the nights agenda. The top ten videos were then screened as hoots and cheers erupted from the crowd. To see surfing on such a huge screen is rare in these days of internet surf clips that are posted daily, and the sound system was amazing.

After the videos played, the awards ceremony began. Each winner received a cash prize in the form of a giant check, a Sundance Beach gift certificate, and a huge prize pack of apparel and surf equipment from our vendors. Then an O’Neill Epic II 4/3mm wetsuit was raffled off with all proceeds going to the Plastic Pollution Coalition at UCSB. Sundance Beach also donated all proceeds from the sale of the event t-shirts to the PPC.

After the show, all of the contestants, staff, featured surfers, judges and vendors were invited to the back patio of the Lobero for an awesome after party. To the delight of the party-goers, the after-party was sponsored by Figueroa Mountain Brewery and catered by L&L Barbeque. The cool sounds of The Fire Department played throughout the night as  everyone danced and laughed the night away until eventually heading to the after-after-party at Sandbar. What a night!
