Last year, West Australia’s Taj Burrow took the win at the Quik Pro Gold Coast, and is definitely a favorite going into this year’s event. Of course, Parko, Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, John John Florence, and last year’s runner-up Adriano De Souza, are all considered favorites as well.

11-time World Champion Kelly Slater will obviously be a favorite to win the event.

Other surfers in fine form at the moment are Australia’s Owen Wright and Adam Melling. Owen won the 4-Star Breaka Burleigh Pro just down the road from Snapper a few weeks ago. Adam finished a close second in the same event, but is also coming off an insane run at the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing last fall in Hawaii.

Crowd favorite Dane Reynolds has been added to the event as a wildcard. Expect some serious upsets as Dane has competed with great results in his last two events, including a 2nd place to Kelly Slater at the Quik Pro France last fall.

The first event of the Women’s 2013 ASP World Tour, the Roxy Pro, runs simultaneously to the Quik Pro. 2012 World Champion Stephanie Gilmore was last year’s winner and is a clear favorite this year as well. Australia’s Sally Fitzgibbons is one to watch as well as the young competitor is coming off a win at the 4-star Breaka Burleigh Pro two weeks ago, and a 2nd place at the 6-Star Burton Toyota Pro last week. Others to watch are Californians Courtney Conlogue and Lakey Peterson. These two SoCal girls are easily the fittest on tour and are hungry for a win. The point surf will suit their smooth power surfing and allow for some serious carves.

Stephanie Gilmore's powerful surfing and smooth style will be hard to beat at Snapper.

The Quik Pro has added a twist to their webcast for 2013. They have added the ability for viewer participation and interaction through the app crowdscall.com! This gives viewers the chance to vote for who is winning the heat! In addition, there will be a specialty Crowds Call Super Heat! Viewers will vote which surfers are in the Super Heat which is run during, but is separate from, the ASP event, similar to an expression session.
