One Day Without Shoes + Sundance Beach

Sundance Beach joined the global movement One Day Without Shoes for an entire day to raise awareness to children’s health and education, and the impact a pair of shoes can make on a child’s life.

Shoes play an important role in:

Health: Hookworm, a soil-transmitted parasite, affects 740 million people worldwide. Long term physical effects include stunted growth, decreased cognitive development, anemia, and chronic fatigue. Studies show that children affected by hookworm are 20% less likely to go to school and earn 40% less in adult life. Source: WHO
Education: In many developing countries, shoes and uniforms are a requirement for school. Every year of school can increase a child’s future earnings by 10%. Providing school uniforms with shoes to children who cannot afford them can increase school attendance up to 62%. Source: Evans, 2009
Self-Esteem: Poverty can affect a child’s feelings of self-worth. Confident, healthy children are more likely to stay in school, become leaders and seize opportunities for themselves, their families and community.

Start the Conversation with your family and friends. Educate people about TOMS‘ One for One movement and encourage them to leave their footprint. For every pair of TOMS shoes you purchase, one is given to a child in need.

Help change the road for millions of children throughout the world.
