Got it on Video…Prove it. Sundance Beach's Surf Video Contest gives you the chance.
Sundance Beach is holding it’s 4th Annual Surf Video Contest on March 5th, 2011 at the Lobero Theater. If you love surf film classics, such as Endless Summer and Riding Giants, why not try to head on down and catch the showing of local surfer’s and videographer’s short films and see what they have to offer? Sundance Beach’s vendors will set their tents up at 5pm and have fun giveaways for the viewers until 6pm, when the showings will begin. Each film is a maximum length of 5 minutes and the screening will last approximately an hour and a half. Sundance Beach will then screen the Way of the Ocean, a film by Matt Kleiner which was featured at this year’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
The contest has been expanded and the stakes increased for 2011. Videos will be judged by industry leaders and film veterans. Sundance Beach has five judges lined up. Jay Larsen, our current RVCA rep and a ripper from the Momentum generation. Matt Bovard, an industry staple who has been a part of the surf industry for years and also currently reps for O’Neill. Josh Pomer, a UCSB graduate who has earned surf recognition from directing the Kill series and The Westsiders. Local photographer, Jon Schafer, who runs santabarbarasurfer.com. And, Shawn Tracht, a writer from DEEP magazine. The videos have been narrowed down to just ten and sent out to our judges. The winners will be announced following the screening of the videos.
This year’s prizes have been increased. Our Best Overall Video winner will receive $500 in cash, $250 gift certificate to Sundance Beach, and a Sponsor Grand Prize Pack, which consists of products from surf industry vendors, including but not limited to board bags, hard goods, clothing, and accessories. Our Best Cinematography Video, Best Surfing Footage Video, and Most Original winners will receive $200 in cash, $100 gift certificate to Sundance Beach, and a Sponsor Prize Pack. The Sponsor Prize Packs will include items from our sponsors: RVCA, Volcom, O’Neill, Billabong, Quiksilver, Hurley, Reef, Spy, and Electric. The winning videos will be shown at Sundance Beach throughout the year, linked on the Sundance Beach website, posted on Facebook, and promoted through various surf media venues including popular surfing websites. For viewers who didn’t submit videos, we have a free raffle, with giveaways from our sponsors.
After the Surf Video Contest is over, we will have another award to win. The Viewer’s Choice Award will be awarded to the film who receives the most “Likes” on Sundance Beach’s Facebook. The videos will be uploaded to our Facebook page after the premiere and people can log on and vote for their favorite film until March 14th, 2011. The winner will receive a gift certificate from Sundance Beach and a Sponsor Prize Pack.
Sundance Beach hopes to see everyone at the Lobero!
