Flip Flop or Not
Flip-Flop or NOT: Is it the Only Way to Go?
Is the flip-flop the only way to go when it comes to beach shoes? For a very long time, the flip-flop was the “it” beach shoe, but no more. Gone are the days of those traditional rubber sandals we also call thongs. Gone are also the days of unfashionable flip-flops – we now have a wide variety of cool-looking, cute, beach shoes to choose from. Today, beach shoes are not only functional (to prevent our feet from getting hot or hurt) but also quite fashionable.
Beach shoes have come a long way. Just look at Sanuk Sidewalk Sandals, Olukai Sandals, and Reef Fannings for a few ideas of just how far they’ve come. These are nothing like those old flip-flops we had growing up. It’s true those old flip-flops are still around, but who wants those to be their only choice when hitting the beach?
First of all, beach shoes aren’t just for the beach anymore. You can wear the latest flip-flop styles as well as other kinds of sandals to just about any location or event you can think of. Want to go to lunch after soaking up the sun? Go for it in your Reef Fannings. Want to hit the surf shop next Sunday afternoon? Why not – wear your new Sanuk Sidewalk Sandals. Beach shoes are “the” fashion accessory for the summer, next to your bikini and sunglasses. The right beach shoes will give you a relaxed, beachy look, even if you haven’t been the beach in years.
Though it is no longer a requirement, the flip-flop is a beachwear staple. But today, flip-flops come in all styles and materials. They still come in the traditional rubber, but now there are leather flip-flops, wooden flip-flops, and fabric ones to boot. And it doesn’t stop there. We’ve seen flip-flops with bamboo soles, velvet straps, and even massaging foot pads. Some are perfect for wearing with your bikini while others can be easily paired with a sundress or even jeans. The possibilities are endless!
As we already mentioned, beach shoes don’t have to be flip-flops. Any shoe that can be worn comfortably while walking on the sand and that you love is the ideal beach shoe. There are flip-flops and sandals designed specifically for the beach as well as athletic shoes for those who love to run along the coast. Jogging on the beach is a great way to gain exercise. Beach running shoes usually have a pronounced arch for more support and extra breathability.
It really just comes down to what you like to wear when you go to the beach. And if you like to wear your beach clothes to other locations and events, even better! This summer, the lines are blending between beachwear and non-beachwear. What is acceptable at the beach is also acceptable off of the beach. So, no needs to save your favorite sandals for the sand – throw them on and hit your favorite restaurant or shop today!
